Healthy Living for overweight children at the Children’s Medical Center (KMC)

General information

At KMC, we take special care of overweight children. We know a lot about obesity and how to have a healthy lifestyle. If necessary, we cooperate with other centers of expertise in the Netherlands and have contact with various experts in the area, such as physiotherapists, psychologists and dietitians.

During treatment, we want to work with you and your child to understand why your child is overweight. Sometimes it is difficult to lose weight, and so together we look for the best way to do this. We look at the way your child lives, such as what they eat, how much they exercise and relax. We also look to see if there might be psychological reasons. With conversations and research, we try to figure out what is best for your child and your family.

It is often important to modify things in lifestyle, such as eating, exercise and relaxation. We work with you to see what help is needed in this regard. We work together with others in the neighborhood, such as physiotherapists, psychologists and dieticians. We also have contact with the Youth Health Service (GGD/JGZ).

Reference

If you want to make an appointment at KMC Lifestyle Medicine, you need a referral from the family physician, pediatrician or adolescent doctor.

Understanding your situation

After you register, you will be given questionnaires and a diary. We want to know a lot about you so that we understand what is going on. For example, we ask about things like how things are at home and if there are any problems. We also want to know how your child is doing at school and what they like to do. With all this information, we can determine the best approach together.

Working together as a team

Participating in the care pathway requires a lot of effort and commitment. It can sometimes be quite busy for you and your family. We can only help your child properly if you are fully committed. That is why it is important that you attend all appointments.

Research and quality

At KMC, we follow the latest research in this field. In addition, Child Medical Center is affiliated with the Physician and Lifestyle Association and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

What parents say about Child Medical Center

“We had an online consultation with Sultan for my 4-month-old baby.

I liked her approach because she did not create stress for the baby’s condition, but still pointed out what needs attention.

She is a very polite person, and makes you feel comfortable approaching her for anything you need.”

Family D.

“If you are looking for a loving, caring and knowledgeable pediatrician, you are in the right place.

I met Sultan when she had her own fancy clinic in one of the most prestigious complexes in Istanbul. Her patients, I mean the children, loved her. The parents were sure they were in good hands, all the time.

She knows what she is doing and all she wants is to build healthy generations. Trust her, you won’t regret it.”

Eczacı (pharmacist)

“Doctor Duyar is the sweetest doctor you can have for your children.
She is always there for you, listens to both parents and child.

She is very empathetic, calm, knowledgeable, committed, dedicated and steadfast. Our children never minded a visit to the pediatrician, even when they needed a shot.

Doctor Duyar always made them feel comfortable.”

Bouchra van Persie, Netherlands

We live abroad as a family and it has not always been easy to find a good pediatrician. That is why I am very happy to know Dr. Sultan.

Even when I see a doctor, I always contact her immediately afterwards to ask for a second opinion. She answers quickly and easily and is always very precise (asks for several pictures and videos).

What I especially appreciate is that she is reluctant to prescribe antibiotics and other strong medications if it is not absolutely necessary.

Thank you so much for all the times you have helped us, Sultan!”

The Arslan family

“We met Doctor Sultan at a time when we were constantly trying new doctors for our daughter, but each time we were disappointed with the service we received and lost hope.

Her pediatric approach, her examination techniques and especially the pediatric approach seen in many doctors in Turkey, far from the habit of prescribing medication at every opportunity, evaluating the baby through his own natural development and the sense of confidence she gave us thanks to her treatment and caring approach, impressed us very much during our first experience.

Especially after our first appointment, I will never forget that peaceful moment when my wife and I looked at each other and said we had finally found the doctor we were looking for.”

“Doctor Sultan is an incredibly sweet doctor to my little son Xess. He feels comfortable with her and she reassures him.

She explains very clearly and well what is going on and has a very pleasant way of communicating. we love Dr. Sultan!”
